Base-Southern Cross Cup 2011
The Inaugural Southern
Cross Cup 2011 Children’s Alpine ski racing competition
will be sponsored by Base - Wanaka's leading
Snowsports equipment shop http://www.basenz.com
The K1 & K2 Base - Southern Cross Cup Club competition will overlay the 2011 National Youth Series Champs races at Mt Hutt, August 19th - 21st 2011 over three disciplines Super G, GS and SL.
New Zealand, Australian and International club teams of a maximum of eight, K1 and/or K2, alpine race skiers will be eligible to enter and take home the Mere trophy and the miniatures for each member of the team. It is intended that the event will develop and grow as a K1/K2 International event over this decade and will eventually comprise a 2 race Trans-tasman series.
Clubs will be entitled to enter more than one team, with the best 6 skiers' scores in each team to count towards the trophy.
There is no maximum or minimum number of K1 or K2 skiers or boys and girls who may make up each club team. This is intended to attract the widest range of clubs to challenge for the trophy.
The 29cm mere trophy and 14cm miniatures have been crafted in New Zealand from authenticated Hokitika, Pounamu, a highly prized stone which is revealed by earthquakes and storms, and discovered from time to time from the heart of our Southern Alps.
The Pounamu Mere is a symbol of
courage and determination and their
traditional stance is one of offering a
challenge
