Scott McKinnel, managing director of Check Point Software Technologies Australia and New Zealand, believes that the continued prevalence of Facebook attacks show the importance of promoting basic security measures for users to protect themselves.
“Joining social networking sites in the public domain means it’s impossible to remain completely anonymous, but following these simple reminders can reduce the risk of falling victim to cybercrime,” said McKinnel. “Try to be practical and disclose as little personal demographic information on your Facebook page as possible to avoid targeted attacks.”
“Don’t aggregate all your social networks, and use a different password for each,” McKinnel continued. “And finally, it sometimes pays to be cynical – if something looks suspicious, there’s a good chance it actually is.”
