Have Voice Will Sing - Ruth & The Honest 3 |

PRESS RELEASE
What would you do for a dollar?
This year, Ruth Armishaw, the musical force behind several hit Fringe shows, gets up-front and personal. Leading her band the Honest 3 from the piano, Ruth sings a show of original songs written in collaboration with lyricist Paul Jenden.
With musicals Troy, Monarchy, Rome, The Nero Show (all with composer Gareth Farr), and Roger Hall’s Pantomimes at Circa Theatre under his belt of lyric writing experience, Paul’s witty words describe how Ruth discovered her calling as an artist and her subsequent journey on the road to recognition; the jobs that paved and paid the way to artistic realisation. In some ways, this is every artist’s story.
She sings of underpaid jobs like babysitting and waitressing, and the valuable lessons. Who knew that toddlers could be teachers, and dining customers could be catalysts for change?
“As a child I understood the importance of jobs for earning; I had a paper run between the age of 8 and 15 and saved everything I earned. As I’ve grown I’ve found the value of jobs for learning; what I will and will not tolerate and how to balance paying the bills with creative satisfaction.”
Musically, Ruth’s tried it all, but the long hours spent at Jazz School have strongly influenced the music in this production, with injections of melodic jokes to compliment Paul’s lyrical humour. Keep your ears open - it’s original yet familiar.
And to support the music, experienced videographer, projectionist, designer and editor Sara Pattison will add projected visual media.
Ruth and Paul first collaborated in Fringe 2010 as Musical Director and Director respectively for “In the Mood” with vocal trio The One Night Stands. They wrote one song together that became a highlight of the show, which led them to writing Have Voice; Will Sing.
Ruth’s past involvement in the Fringe Festival has been in the capacities of actor, singer, arranger, composer, accompanist, band leader and musical director. Now she is adding Producer to the list and having just made the transition to full time musician, Ruth is doing what she loves and does best and wants to share it with you.
“I love to entertain people, but I also want the audience to leave knowing that they’ve been part of something; my evolution as an artist”.
The combination of Ruth’s vocal skills, memorable songs and a fantastic band, makes this show a must see. So help Ruth make a dollar. You never know, she might sing about it in the future.
The show is part of the Fringe Festival and runs Saturday 18 to Tuesday 21 February, 7pm, at Meow, Edward St. Meow is a licenced venue, with food available.
