HKETO Launches Young Orchestra’s Australian &
NZ Tour
The Hong Kong
Children’s Symphony Orchestra (HKCSO) start its
Australasian tour with a concert in Sydney’s Angel Place
Recital Hall tomorrow evening (Thursday 19 July). The
Orchestra is performing a series of concerts across
Australia and New Zealand to celebrate the 15th Anniversary
of Hong Kong’s return to Chinese sovereignty and the
establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region.
Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Steve Barclay says, “We are delighted that Australia and New Zealand have been added to the now long list of touring venues by the Orchestra and that it is playing in prominent performance venues in both countries.
“The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Australia and New Zealand are pleased to be able to showcase the HKCSO. All tickets to five venues are free of charge to the public.”
Appearing in capital cities across two countries, HKCSO will be performing at Angel Place City Recital Hall, Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide, Melbourne BMW Edge Federation Square, Auckland Town Hall and an additional performance in Wellington with students from Scots College. Almost all venues are now fully booked.
The Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra was founded by Dr Yip Wai-Hong in 1996. Since then, it has established itself as one of Hong Kong’s cultural ambassadors and has toured internationally almost every year. On its most recent performances in Austria & Germany, eminent scholar and music critic Oliver Chou lauded, “Superb, few could match what seventy-six girls and boys showed in the birthplace of classical music!”
The Orchestra is made up of 56 children from 7–18 years old. Most are handpicked from highly competitive open auditions and have attained their fellowships, diplomas and licentiate diplomas from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College (London).
On
its Australian and New Zealand tour, the Orchestra will be
led by Dr Yip Wai-Hong and
joined by Assistant Conductor,
Ms Po Kwan Law and Honorary Guest Conductor Dr Gabriel
Leung.
