International Mobile Innovation Screening 2012

The International Mobile Innovation Screening 2012 will showcase a screening programme of mobile short films and mobile-mentaries from Brazil, USA, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, New Zealand, Columbia, Russia, Greece, Germany and Japan.

The MINA (Mobile Innovation Network Aotearoa) International Mobile Innovation Screening 2012 will take place at the New Zealand Film Archive in Wellington, on the 23rd November, at 6.30pm. The screening includes mobile phone films made by a wide range of emerging and established filmmakers from around the world.

The programme for the evening includes Benoît Labourdette’s Poster, Luke Geissbuhler’s Homemade Spacecraft, Miri D’Oro and Marian Mueller’s Kobalt, and many more in between. Poster is a love story, which is described by Labourdette as “a tactile film made of paper and words.” Homemade Spacecraft is the product of a weekend father and son experiment involving a weather balloon and a smart phone propelled to 120,000 feet. Kobalt is a music video about impressions of Frankfurt, made for German techno artists Mueller & Mitch.

This will be the second International Mobile Innovation screening MINA have run. The films show the evolution of the mobile phone from a communication device to a creative and educational tool. Mobile phone technologies are continuously changing, opening up new possibilities for the makers of mobile phone films, who are savvy at incorporating the new features into their work. The screening will present a picture of where mobile phone filmmaking is at now.

The programme includes works produced on smartphones, iPads and other mobile cameras.

MINA (www.mina.pro) is an international network that promotes cultural and research activities to expand the emerging possibilities of mobile media. MINA aims to explore the opportunities for interaction between people, content and the creative industry within the context of Aotearoa/New Zealand and internationally.
