www.sarahalbisser.com  www.marisaschuler.com   We are two Swiss artists; Sarah Albisser and Marisa Schuler. We have been working on art projects over the past eight years.

We met at Art School in Switzerland 2005. In January 2007 we came to New Zealand and lived on Waiheke Island for four years before moving to Wellington.

‘Connect’ will be a series of Drawings, Paintings, Prints and Collage which portray some of the connections we have made and continue to discover in our lives. After having a successful exhibition in June 2012 we are pleased to be back at the Thistle Hall.

Making Connections is what life is about. We cannot be "out there" unless we are also "in here.

Marisa Schuler Artist Profile Marisa is originally from Buerglen, a quiet mountain village in Switzerland and attended Farbmuehle Art School in Lucerne, before immigrating to New Zealand in 2007. Since living in New Zealand, Marisa has been involved in several art projects.

Human sexuality and Human behaviour. Marisa has always connected with cultural movement 'Dada'. The Dada movement challenges "art regulations" (antikϋnstlerisch), and is provocative, playful and at times non-sensical in the use of collage and other art forms. The historical value of recycled material inspires her work. She re-uses objects which have already existed somewhere in time, taken up spaces, and held meaning for places or people. Objects, which may be viewed by the world as no longer having purpose or potential.

Marisa’s work is designed to offer the viewers their own unique interpretation of it, and to continue the journey of new meaning and purpose.

Sarah Albisser Artist Profile

Sarah Albisser completed her studies as a contemporary dancer in 1996 at the Merce Cunningham Studio in New York. Her career as an independent dancer and choreographer includes founding the dance theatre company Waterproof in 2001.

The company has had successful performances in Switzerland, India and New Zealand with awards in 2002 for new comers and 2003 for her work as a dancer and choreographer. In 2006 she received a certificate in art from Farbmuehle in Switzerland following a one-year painting course at the Art Station in Auckland.

In the past I have never used images or photos of faces, all my portraits are developed through improvisation.

In my paintings I am trying to capture expressions, feelings, moods and mental states.

I believe our hard drive has stored thousands of these feelings, thoughts and expressions.

I am fascinated how each of us has our unique expression of who we are.

Art has given me a mental space, and a freedom, which allows me to transform the world into an aesthetic form.

Art is an expression of freedom, if it ever loses its point it loses its function.
