NZ Fantasy Short Broken Glass to Premiere on White Ribbon Day
Wellington’s Embassy Theatre Hosting World Premiere with J.J. Abrams’ “Super 8”
Wellington, 18 October, 2013 ~ Paramount Pictures NZ and Seriously Entertainment present the World Premiere Charity Gala of “Broken Glass” plus a special screening of the Steven Spielberg-produced film “Super 8” at The Embassy on 25 November 2013 in benefit of Shine and White Ribbon Day.
In “Broken Glass” a young boy being bullied at school and with an abusive father at home encounters a mysterious creature that soon changes his life forever.
The short film will have its World Premiere with a fundraiser event for domestic abuse organisation Shine who endorsed the film from script stage. Tickets for the screening are $25 each from www.iticket.co.nz with all money from collections on the night going to the White Ribbon Day campaign.
It is the second short film from award-winning filmmaker Chaz Harris who said the first spark of inspiration for the film came after seeing the J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg-produced film “Super 8” which will screen as the main feature thanks to Paramount Pictures.
“It reminded me of the way films used to make me feel, I didn’t realise how much I missed that sense of magic and imagination in movies until then and so I set out to achieve the same”, Harris said. “I made ‘Broken Glass’ as a self-contained short story that’s part of a bigger mythological world I want to explore in ‘The Glassmaker’ which is the continuing feature film I’ve written”.
Executive Director of Shine Jane Drumm says, “these are tough times and family violence is a grim issue - on both counts, this country needs to feel that a light is shining on a terrible problem and that some brightness is coming”.
The filmmakers are currently running a PledgeMe campaign to cover the event overheads as they want 100% of ticket sales to go directly to Shine if possible https://www.pledgeme.co.nz/Crowd/Details/1421
Tickets for the premiere are available for $25 from iTICKET: http://www.iticket.co.nz/events/2013/nov/broken-glass-charity-gala-world-premiere
