Coster cruises to another Canterbury Circuit win
Rakaia shearer Tony Coster opened a big two days at the Canterbury Show by retaining the Canterbury Circuit title by a crushing margin of more than 14 points yesterday(November 13).
Coster has been a regular winner of the title, which
he first won in 1997.
Yesterday’s win was an entrée to
the final day today, when more than 20 years competing at
top level will be recognised with presentation of his
Shearing Sports New Zealand Master Shearer Award.
Coster finished yesterday’s 10 sheep, six-man final more than a sheep before nearest rival and Rangiora-based shearer and instructor Mark Herlihy, Coster also had easily the best quality points.
Today he was shearing in the national Corriedale Championships, and the Lister Canterbury-Queensland challenge, where he, Herlihy and Circuit third-placegetter Grant Smith, of Rakaia, were up against visitors Boogie Ferguson, Barry Hammond, and Dave Grant.
Canterbury won the Australian leg of the series at
the Diamond Shears in Longreach, Qld, in
July.
