8,000 rainbow-coloured runners brighten up Albany

QBE stadium in Albany was awash with colour today as The Color Run returned to Auckland for another “fun run-meets-festival” experience. The Color Run, however, is not over for New Zealanders yet - there are still two opportunities for Kiwi’s to take part as it makes its way down the country to Wellington and Christchurch next month.

This year’s Color Run in Auckland saw runners complete a 5km course whilst being doused in brightly coloured powder at each kilometre mark, resulting in a spectacle of rainbow coloured runners. Entrants ranged from first-time runners to seasoned athletes and were all running for one purpose; to promote happiness, healthiness and individuality. After crossing the finish line, runners celebrated with friends and family at the Finish Festival with music, food stalls and family fun.

“The Color Run is all about having fun and celebrating with friends and family, but the purpose is also to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle. It is a great way to encourage people to get outside and just run for the fun of it,” said The Color Run National Manager, Ashlee Munting.

Makaia Carr from Motivate Me, a keen supporter of The Color Run, ran the course with her family and friends, and engaged with her supporters about the importance of looking after your body and staying fit and healthy.

Also in attendance were The Color Run’s official partners ZM, Resene and New Balance, who all got involved in the festivities, giving away spot prizes to some very lucky participants.

Each runner was given an official white T-shirt, sweatband, temporary tattoo and colour powder pack for the Finish Festival. There was also a “Cleaning Zone’ on site for those who wanted a quick wash up before they went home.

“This year The Color Run had an outstanding 8,000 participants. We are excited to bring an even bigger and better experience to Kiwi Color Runners and this morning we threw almost 30,000kgs of coloured powder on the runners,” says Ashlee.

The upcoming events in Christchurch and Wellington are looking to be just as successful. There are limited tickets available and interested runners are encouraged to get in quick if they want to take part in the Happiest 5k on the planet. On March 14 The Christchurch Color Run will take place at the Canterbury Agricultural Park and on March 29 runners can get involved in Wellington at the Trentham Memorial Park.
