The Pacific Events and Entertainment Trust is proud to announce the inaugural PACIFIC HONOURARY AWARDS (Pacific Honours) to take place in December, 2015.

‘Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present and Inspiring our Futureis the vision of the award ceremony.

Similarly to the BET Awards, NAACP Awards, Oscars or the Grammys; the PACIFIC HONOURARY AWARDS aims to be the Pacific's preeminent award ceremony.

In summary, the awards will annually celebrate seven exemplary Pacific leaders. The nominations will be open to all the community and any person of Pacific descent is eligible for nomination. There will be an independent judging panel that will assess all nominations and select seven recipients to honour. The panel will comprise of Pacific leaders from various fields of expertise. A third-party impartial auditor will also ensure integrity.

There are no categories and the criterion is purely open to any exemplary Pacific person who has excelled in their chosen field or industry to advance the people of the Pacific. Essentially, anyone from the performing arts to sport, music, academia or community leadership could be honoured at these prestigious ceremonies annually.

The logo:

The circular border contains three main Pacific patterns:

• Outside pattern of octopus suckers: the octopus is found across the Pacific Ocean and is known for its super strong suckers on its tentacles. This is a symbol of unity and strength. The awards aim to enhance Pacific cohesion and mana.

• Middle pattern of a woven mat: the traditional woven mat is found across the Pacific at homes, meeting places and Churches. This symbolises the intergenerational connectedness of the Pacific. The legacies of our ancestors which will continue today and into the future.

• Inner pattern of the bird footprints: the Pacific is the most beautiful region in the world with its stunning landscape and ecology. Birds are a common feature in Pacific culture and symbolise journey. The awards celebrate the success of our journey as people and look forward to the future with hope.

The three steps under the text:

• The three steps symbolise the advancement of Pacific people and the stepping stones for future success and prosperity.

The seven stars:

• The stars represent the seven leaders who will be honoured at the annual Pacific Honourary Awards.

• Why stars? Because the Pacific people are the greatest navigators on the sea using the stars. Historians, archaeologists and anthropologists agree that the Pacific were the greatest mariners in navigating to and colonising thousands of islands. We must celebrate our Pacific stars to inspire the next generation.

IMPORTANT DATES:

• Nominations open on Friday 29th May, 2015

• Nominations close on Tuesday 29th September, 2015

• Press conference and announcement of finalists on Monday 12th October, 2015

• Award ceremony will take place early December, 2015

Pacific Events and Entertainment is a registered charitable trust that manages community groups and events. Comprising of over 20 community leaders and combined experience of 100 years in various fields of expertise. The trust is working with other community groups, local and central government, churches and the wider community to deliver this annual award ceremony.
