He Tangata Start Up Weekend – 15-17 April 2016
Hosted out of Nelson is New Zealand’s first
ever vertical Kaupapa Maori Start Up Weekend, being held
over 54 hours on the weekend of 15-17th April.
Startup Weekend is a global phenomenon - 54 hours of fast and furious prototype development through to exploring potential markets and pitching. It’s an unparalleled opportunity to build lasting relationships with co-founders; mentors, and investors.
In just 54 hours, participants will experience the highs, lows, fun, and pressure that make up life at a startup. Maori have always been traders and entrepreneurial thinkers, Start Up Weekend is to stimulate these thoughts and provide an environment on how to create a real company, meet the very best mentors, investors, cofounders, and sponsors who are ready to help individuals to get started. Start Up weekend is about building the community.
At He Tangata SUW participants will be immersed in Tikanga Maori and the right people and environment for startup magic to happen. Local Iwi leaders, Maori Mentors and business professionals form the judging and mentoring support team. The weekend will embrace local tikanga and provide a safe environment for individuals and groups to learn lean processes, market validation and simply create amazing things in just 54 hours.
Thanks to sponsors such as Te Puni Koriri, Ngati Rarua Atiawa Iwi Trust, Maori Womens Development Inc and Crowe Howarth we are able to bring this global event to the region.
He Tangata SUW has been coordinated by Ārewa, a Maori development and leadership company formed in Nelson in 2015. Ārewa’s focus is to provide networks, relationships and opportunities to elevate the Maori economy, regionally, nationally and globally.
5 reasons why you should attend He Tangata SUW:
1. Fastest way to learn the basic business toolkit,
