Four seasons in one evening

Four seasons in one evening: sun, thunder, waterfalls and animals at the Cathedral

A Wellington spring day can swing from roaring gale through to glorious sunshine in a matter of hours. So the power and impact of nature is especially fitting as a theme for the next Orpheus Choir concert (Saturday 12 November, 7.30pm at Wellington Cathedral of St Paul).

A selection of choruses from Haydn's The Seasons make up the traditional end of the programme. The modern works are Kondalilla, a soundscape by Australian composer Stephen Leek evoking the atmosphere of the national park; Morten Lauridsen's lilting folksong-influenced "Dirait-on"; and several pieces by Eric Whitacre: a dramatic desert storm in Cloudburst, the inspiration of sunlight in Lux Aurumque, and laugh-out-loud settings of Ogden Nash poems about the character of various animals. The concert will finish with a sneak peek at the choir's programme for 2017.

This varied concert is just the way to brighten up a Saturday evening, whatever the weather may hold in store outside!
