The bottle of 1945 Chateau Latour up for auction in Auckland last night easily met reserve, selling for the price of a small car.

At The Wine Auction Room’s first live auction, the coveted red fetched $4,805 (reserve was $4,000). A 1961 Chateau Latour also proved popular, with a top bid of $3,123.

Vintage Dom Perignon was also up for grabs, with a 1992 bottle selling for $540. Other wines that went under the hammer included bottles of Penfolds Grange, Stonyridge Larose, Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay, and Kumeu River Hunting Hill and Mate’s Chardonnay.

“Our first live auction was a terrific success and we are very happy with the results,” says founder and auctioneer Reece Warren.
