Wild Dunedin Celebrates 10 Years With Inaugural Wildlife Ambassador Awards

This year marks a major milestone for the NZ Festival of Nature – Wild Dunedin, as it celebrates 10 years of inspiring locals and visitors alike to connect with and protect Aotearoa’s unique wildlife and natural environment.

To commemorate this special anniversary, Wild Dunedin has, for the first time, awarded three Wildlife Ambassador Awards to individuals who have played pivotal roles in the festival’s success and continue to advocate passionately for nature and wildlife.

The inaugural award recipients are:

Each awardee received a beautifully crafted Oamaru stone koru carving, symbolising growth, harmony, and new beginnings, with their names on plaques. The awards were presented by Wild Dunedin Trustees Kerry Buchan, Neil Harraway, and Jerad Haldan.

Trustee and co-founder Kerry Buchan said
"Suzanne, Suzy, and Damian have been with us since the beginning. They’ve given so much of their time and energy—not just to the festival—but to the wider mission of celebrating and protecting Dunedin’s incredible natural heritage. It couldn’t have been anyone else."

Suzy Cato shared: “I’m over the moon. Dunedin and this festival have always had a special place in my heart.”

Damian Newell added: “I’m just happy to help and be part of such a wonderful community that truly values the importance of protecting what makes this place so special.”

The Wild Dunedin Festival continues to be a unique celebration of nature, driven by passionate volunteers, local organisations, and community advocates.
