Little Cinema Relaunches With Southern Filmmakers Collective At The Helm |
||
Little Cinema, the South’s beloved short film showcase, is back — this time under the stewardship of the Southern Filmmakers Collective (SFC).
The event, which has been running for several years, has built a reputation as a welcoming platform for short-form storytelling in the South. Now, with SFC at the helm, Little Cinema will continue that legacy while expanding its reach across Otago and Southland.
“We’re thrilled to carry the torch for Little Cinema,” says Reece Hallum, SFC Committee Member. “This showcase has always been about community and creativity, and our goal is to grow it into something even more vibrant and connected.”
Applications are open for narrative shorts, documentaries, or music videos under 15 minutes, completed in the past two years by filmmakers living in, or closely connected to, Otago or Southland.
Unlike traditional competitive festivals, Little Cinema shines a light on creativity rather than competition. It brings together new voices and experienced practitioners, showcasing the depth and diversity of film talent across the South.
The curated programme will travel to multiple venues throughout Otago and Southland in the coming months, with screening dates to be announced soon.
“The beauty of Little Cinema is that it belongs to the community,” Reece says. “It’s intimate, it’s celebratory, and it’s uniquely Southern.”
Filmmakers can submit their short film, documentary, or music video online via the Southern Filmmakers Collective website.
The Southern Filmmakers Collective (SFC) is a regional organisation dedicated to nurturing film talent across Otago and Southland. Through workshops, networking, screenings, and events, SFC builds connections and creates opportunities for local filmmakers to learn, collaborate, and share their stories.
