Featherbrained - Debut Solo Standup Show To Tour NZ Fringe Festivals |
||

Calling all worriers, overthinkers and ruminators! Flock along to Wellington-based standup comedian Oliver Pol’s solo show, Featherbrained, debuting as part of the New Zealand Fringe Festival in Wellington on 6-7 March before heading to Nelson on 13-14 March and Dunedin on 19-21 March.
The show is about the freedom of being a ‘silly goose’, casting aside an inclination for overthinking and self-doubt and instead finding joy in the mundanities of everyday life. “I’ve got a noisy brain,” says Oliver, “but when I’m performing there’s no time to ruminate. I want the audience to have so much fun that they don’t wonder whether they left their tap running or their oven on, because they probably didn’t. If they did, oops, that’s something to sort out afterwards.”
Oliver has regularly performed in Wellington for almost five years, honing irreverent but relatable material and developing an elastic-limbed upbeat comic persona. He’s now finally stepping into the spotlight with this energetic solo debut.
But why is it called Featherbrained? He explains, “I’m no ornithologist, but I think being a silly goose is no bad thing. Birds are descendants of dinosaurs - they’ll probably outlast us, got to respect that. Plus, I once saw a seagull eating a pigeon, so there’s some fear in the mix too.”
Get ready for sharp, playful storytelling with a (probably) unique intersection of psychoanalysis and fun facts about birds. Featherbrained promises unexpected observations and offbeat charm from an exciting rising voice in New Zealand comedy.
