Ministry welcomes ratification

The Ministry of Education has welcomed ratification of the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement (SCTA) 2013-2015.

The Secretary for Education, Lesley Longstone, says the ratification is excellent news for the secondary sector.

“I’m delighted secondary schools and teachers will start the 2013 school year with a ratified collective agreement.”

Ms Longstone says credit is due to advocates from both the Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA) and the Ministry, including the New Zealand School Trustees Association.

“Both parties bargained constructively and in good faith from the beginning.
“Their professionalism and commitment to reaching a fair settlement has seen ratification before the current collective agreement expires.”

The settlement is for a 1.1% increase to the cost of teacher base salaries at the start of 2013; an increase of 1% at the start of 2014; and a further 0.5% at the start of 2015. The collective agreement will expire in mid-2015.
