Waikato DHB Chief Executive Departs

Waikato District Health Board chief executive Malcolm Stamp completed his last day on the job yesterday (Monday 7 May).

Mr Stamp resigned in February to take up a newly-created health position in England.

He will start as chief executive of a new London health provider agency later this month. NHS London serves 7.5 million people with a budget of NZ$39 billion.

Mr Stamp, who has been with the Waikato DHB since July 1 last year, was scheduled to fly out of the country later today.

Acting chief executive Jerry Rickman told staff today it was very much "business as usual" under his watch while the board sought a replacement.

Chairman Michael Ludbrook said the board had already identified a number of potential candidates for the chief executive's job.

"We'd expect interviews to start later this month."

Mr Rickman said the DHB's executive group would continue to meet regularly, under his chairmanship, and make appropriate decisions.

"I am here to support them and all Waikato DHB's employees during this transition period," he said.

Mr Rickman has already visited a number of Waikato DHB sites and is scheduled to visit Taumarunui Hospital with board members on May 24.
