Pyjama party at Waikato Hospital today

Nighties, pyjamas, dressing gowns and slippers were a common sight in Waikato Hospital's oncology ward today and not just on the patients.

Ward 25 staff hosted a pyjama day and everyone got involved. Nurses, doctors, pharmacists and even the cleaners.

Nurse Robyn Fulton said the ward regularly holds themed days as a way to brighten up the patients' day.

"We've dressed like this in support of our patients.

"We do what makes them happy and they've all had a great time today," she said.

Staff were told they could lose the uniform for a day to wear their bed clothes and a sense of humour.

Patients on the ward said it was "absolutely wonderful" and had "brightened up their day".

After all, everyone knows laughter is the best medicine.
