Fund Raising For Children’s Ward Big Success
Tauranga Hospital children’s ward is the proud owner of two brand new pushchairs thanks to the fund-raising efforts of new mum, Lee-Anne Roycroft.
When her son Zane spent three days in Tauranga Hospital earlier this year, Lee-Anne had trouble settling him.
“He had severe reflux and we just couldn’t settle him. I know having a pushchair on hand would have helped,” she says. “The staff told me they used to have one on the ward, but it had recently been stolen.”
Lee-Anne is Vice President at the Tauranga Rotaract Club and put forward a proposal to the group to raise funds to buy the pushchairs.
Supplied at a reduced cost by The Baby Factory, the Childcare Rover strollers are a great asset to the ward.
“We’re very grateful for this donation,” says children’s ward clinical nurse manager Lynnece Dowle. “Parents often don’t have time to think about bringing a pushchair with them into hospital, but they are so valuable to help settle an upset baby. These are ideal as they can be used for a newborn baby up to a four year old toddler.”
The Rotaract Club is the junior branch of the Rotary Club and organises social activities and community projects for 18-30 year olds. The money was raised through sales of the 2010 Entertainment Book with $11 from each sale being donated to the fund.
