New Director Of Clinical Units Appointed For Waikato
Dr Phil Wood has this week stepped into a key medical leadership role for Waikato District Health Board, heading Waikato Hospital's clinical units.
Dr Wood came to Waikato in February 2009 with a wealth of knowledge in the sub-specialty of older people’s health, and continues in his role as Health Waikato's Older Persons and Rehabilitation Services' clinical services leader.
“Phil brings a wealth of clinical experience and a strong academic background to this vital leadership position for Waikato Hospital,” said Health Waikato chief operating officer Jan Adams.
Dr Wood also works for Waitemata and up until recently, Tairawhiti district health boards as a geriatrician and has his own North Shore practice The Memory Clinic, which specialises in older people’s health and age-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s This hosts a clinical research group as well.
He is also a director of post-graduate teaching in Gerontology at the University of Auckland.
Dr Wood studied medicine in Dunedin under Professor John Campbell. Following study, he carried out five years of research work in the United Kingdom before returning to New Zealand.
He has three sons aged 23-27 years, and he and his wife run an alpaca stud at Dairy Flat.
Dr Wood took up his new position as Waikato Hospital Director of Clinical Units yesterday (August 9).
