Chesterman resigns from DHB

Gordon Chesterman has resigned from Waikato District Health Board because of the added responsibility and time commitments of his new role as Hamilton deputy mayor.

Mr Chesterman was elected to the DHB for his third term at the recent local body elections. His resignation is effective from December 1.

"It has been a difficult decision for me to make, particularly as I am letting down those who voted me into the role for a third term. However, I also have to be realistic about managing my time.

"During my time on the DHB I made every effort to attend many other meetings, functions and staff events, and regularly travelled to public health forums around the region. It would have been difficult to maintain this commitment which I believe is an additional responsibility for board members. So I finally reached the conclusion that it is better for me to take this decision now."

Mr Chesterman chaired the Community and Public Health Advisory, Health Waikato Advisory and Audit and Risk committees during his six years.

Board chair Graeme Milne said Mr Chesterman made a great contribution to Waikato DHB both as a board member and chair of several committees.

"I thank him for this contribution to the health of the people of the Waikato and more personally for his support and guidance as a senior member of the board in welcoming and advising me in my role as a new chair over the last 18 months."

All vacancies to the board are filled by the Minister of Health between elections.
