Hospital patients receive delicious meal for Christmas

Roast lamb and turkey with homemade stuffing and gravy, served with roast vegetables is one of the lunch options for patients spending Christmas Day at Palmerston North or Wanganui Hospitals.

Steamed plum pudding with brandy sauce, or pavlova with berry sauce will be served as the lunchtime dessert.

Around 220 patients in Palmerston North, 100 in Wanganui, and another 20 at Horowhenua Health Centre, will be offered the festive menu prepared by Spotless Facility Services kitchen staff.

A delicious vegetarian filo roll is the second option for the main, with roast vegetables and baby carrots and green beans completing the lunchtime menu.

Dinner in the evening will start with one of three options: glazed ham off the bone (with steamed gourmet potatoes and salad), a turkey and cranberry sandwich (with garden salad) or a roast vegetable and feta salad.

Patients will have the choice of three evening desserts: double chocolate mousse, stewed fruit, or classic jelly and ice cream.

On Christmas Eve, patients will be offered Christmas “treats” served on trays with a festive theme with Christmas Day beginning with a breakfast menu featuring croissants and fruit toast.

Around 153 Meals on Wheels recipients (88 people in Palmerston North/Feilding, 46 in Wanganui, and another 19 in the Levin/Foxton/Otaki areas) will receive the same menu as hospital lunch patients.
