Scoop Images: Foreshore & Seabed Hikoi In Auckland |
A Hikoi conservatively estimated at around 5000 strong has made its way across Auckland Harbour Bridge. Low cloud and rain this morning did not dampen the turn out. Those taking part in the Hikoi included Kaumatua, Kuia, the young and old. There was a marked sense of peace and obvious solidarity among those on the Hikoi.
Auckland's day dawns to a Hikoi.
Police stopped the march as it reached the Auckland Harbour Bridge summit fearing a gathering swaying motion of the Harbour Bridge structure would intensify. At one point the wave-like motion made it difficult to remain standing.
The Hikoi later gathered on Ngati Whatua land at the southern foot of the Auckland Harbour Bridge before heading off west to hui and the warmth of Hoani Waatiti Marae in Waitakere City.
