The wreaths are piped aboard the SS Jeremiah O'Brien.
Twelve wreaths were presented on the Sunday voyage, some by families and others by organizations such as the Marine Engineers Benevolence Association.
We steamed out under the Golden Gate Bridge and found a nice lee in Bonita Cove, beneath the Marin Headlands.
The flags in the colour guard represent (l-r) Prisoners of War and Missing in Action, the Merchant Marine, California (uncharacteristically shy), Scotland, and the United States. The link with Scotland is that the man the Jeremiah O'Brien is named after was a Scotsman.
After the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, Invocation, and words of greeting and welcome, the ship salutes.
As the wreaths drift away we sing Oh hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea.
The SS Jeremiah O'Brien is a mobile museum, a National Historic Landmark, and she and her triple expansion reciprocating steam engine are a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark.
