Auckland Terror Accused's Name Suppression Lifted

Name Suppression Lifted For Auckland Terror Accused

Reported by Joseph Barratt at the Auckland District Court

Filmmaker Rongomai Peropero Bailey has had his name suppression as one of the 17 so-called "terrorists" of the Ureweras lifted today in the Auckland District Court. It was lifted by consent.

A bail hearing is ongoing in the court for Bailey, the last of seven defendants to have his case heard from an Auckland District Court hearing adjourned on Friday afternoon for lack of time.

Name suppression remains for most of those accused by police of attending a number of "terrorist training camps" in the Urewera.

Two other names of those accused have already been made public.

Maori Activist Tame Iti never sought name suppression in Rotorua.

His nephew Rawiri Iti had name suppression lifted in court on Friday and Jamie Beattie Lockett did not seek name suppression when he appeared for the first time on Tuesday.

Romgomai Bailey, 28, is a film maker and Scoop understands he recently visited the Ureweras on a film scouting trip with a noted New Zealand director.
