95bFM Audio: Dr Najibullah Lafraie on Obama's
Afghanistan decision
95bFM Audio: Obama's Afghanistan
decision – Dr Najibullah Lafraie, from the Otago
University Politics Dept, talks about the pending
Afghanistan strategy decision from the White House. The Vice
President wants to scale back operations and focus on drone
strikes of terrorist cells. The commander of US and NATO
forces has warned the country might become "Chaos-stan" and
wants thousands more troops and a change in tactics. The
Defence Secretary says this will be the most important
decision Obama makes in his presidency, and wants everyone
to shut up until a decision's been made. I'll be talking to
(above), whose bio makes for VERY interesting
reading: Najibullah was the Minister of Information in
the Interim Government of Afghanistan in 1989 and Minister
of State for Foreign Affairs in the Islamic State of
Afghanistan after the downfall of the communist regime in
1992. He served in that position until Taliban captured the
Kabul City in September 1996. Dr. Lafraie and his family
moved to New Zealand in September 2000.
