Campaign to Increase Paid Parental Leave - 26 For Babies |
||
26 Weeks Paid Parental Leave, An Important Measure for Parents and Children According to Unions and Parents' Groups…Which National Have Already Said They'll Veto
By Mark P. Williams

Today saw the launch of the 26 For Babies campaign, a new coalition of unions and parental support groups and associations formed to support the extension of paid parental leave and Sue Moroney's bill to increase it to 26 weeks.
The speakers argued that it was a particularly important provision for the health and wellbeing of New Zealand children, and for the economic security of parents, measures which would have long term benefits to the country.
Significantly, Sue Moroney described the campaign as opening up an important debate and said that the National Party had already indicated that they would veto the proposed bill.
