Brash pays tribute to Sir Brian Barratt-Boyes

National Party Leader Don Brash today paid tribute to New Zealand heart surgeon Sir Brian Barratt-Boyes.

"Sir Brian had a remarkable career and was responsible for major advances in heart surgery in this country, which were acknowledged around the world," says Dr Brash.

"He was the first surgeon in New Zealand to replace diseased heart valves, and to conduct bypass surgery.

"Sir Brian's ground-breaking techniques saved the lives of countless patients around the globe, and for them his contribution to medicine meant the difference between life and death.

"He will be remembered as a true pioneer and innovator," says Dr Brash.
