Dunne continues campaign for MP's code of conduct

United Future leader Peter Dunne today continued his campaign for a formal code of conduct for MP's in their dealings with the public.

He questioned the Prime Minister in the House about the need for a code, especially in light of the current controversy about MP's getting cash donations.

Helen Clark reiterated her view that no MP should ever receive cash for services rendered to members of the public.

She noted that a proposed code of conduct was before Parliament's Standing Orders committee and she supported it.

Mr Dunne pointed out that the British House of Commons had established in 1695 the principle that Parliamentary representatives should not receive benefits for themselves, their families or their friends for performing their public duties.

He tabled in the House the Code of Conduct for MP's adopted by the British Parliament in 1995.
