Signing of NZ's largest environment project

Environment Minister, David Benson-Pope will sign an agreement this Friday (9 February), to protect the quality of the water in LakeTaupo.

Mr Benson-Pope will be accompanied by Local Government Minister, and Taupo MP, Mark Burton.

Joint funding of $81.5 million dollars is coming from the Government, Environment Waikato and Taupo District Council, making the project the largest one of its kind in New Zealand.

"This Government is committed to protecting and improving our environment," says Mr Benson-Pope. "I'm delighted that this agreement will help restore the water quality of such an iconic piece of New Zealand."

The agreement will be signed at 12.35pm at the Lake Taupo Yacht Club.
