Comprehensive Cyclone Aid Package Needed For Samoa, Fiji

New Zealand First offers its condolences to the people of Samoa and Fiji affected by Cyclone Evan and urges our Government to quickly put together a comprehensive aid package.

Pacific Island Affairs spokesperson Asenati Lole-Taylor says the New Zealand Government must play a significant role to ensure Samoans and Fijians have access to basic essentials such as food, shelter, and safe drinking water.

“I am aware that many villages have been destroyed, and many people are congregating at church halls and common fales – including some of my own Samoan family.

“The sooner New Zealand can bolster its aid effort the better so vital infrastructure can be restored.

“In the meantime, Pasifika people are proud people who are rallying in support of one another to make do with what they have.

“They will keep their heads held high as they get on with life,” says Mrs Lole-Taylor.
