Media release – Privileges Committee

Inquiry into a question of privilege regarding use of intrusive powers within the parliamentary precinct.

The Privileges Committee has completed its examination of the incident that led to the referral of the question of privilege regarding use of intrusive powers within the parliamentary precinct, and will report its findings to the House in due course.

The committee will now consider the broader issue of the principles that should govern access to, and release of, information from parliamentary information and security systems. To assist with this work, the committee is writing to experts in this area to request submissions on specific issues identified by the committee. These submissions will be made public once they have been released by the committee.

All material released by the committee to date is available on the parliament website.

As this matter is still before the committee, the chairperson is not able to make any further statement regarding the committee’s consideration.
