Serco boss should front select committee

Serco’s director of operations should appear before Parliament’s Law and Order select committee to answer questions about how fight clubs were allowed to run uninterrupted at his prisons, says Labour’s Corrections Spokesperson Kelvin Davis.

“New Zealanders have been shocked by footage of fight clubs being run by gangs at Mt Eden prison with nothing being done by the guards.

“Kiwis need to know this kind of violence is going to be brought under control. Serco can’t be trusted to investigate itself.

“For that reason, I will ask the Law and Order select committee on Wednesday to invite Serco’s director of operations Scott McNairn to appear before the committee to come and answer questions.

“The Government outsourced the running of our prisons and it is a disaster. They can’t outsource cleaning up the mess as well.

“Serco needs to front up to Parliament and explain why it deserves to keep its contracts after this shocking mismanagement,” says Kelvin Davis.
