Government fails to tackle corporate tax dodgers despite OECD breach
The Government’s admission today that it has failed to enforce OECD guidelines on multinational tax laws and doesn’t know how much New Zealanders are being ripped off by is galling, Leader of the Opposition Andrew Little says.
“The Prime Minister has previously admitted that dozens of multinational corporates are failing to pay their full tax and that this is unethical. Today his deputy revealed the government is doing nothing to uphold international tax guidelines.
“Recent revelations about Kiwi taxpayers being fleeced of potentially billions of dollars from tax dodging corporates confirm that John Key and his ministers care more about big business than they do about ordinary New Zealanders.
“Their refusal to join Labour in a Parliamentary inquiry into corporate tax dodging is deplorable.
“New Zealanders are missing out on the healthcare they need and affordable warm dry homes because this Government protects corporate tax dodgers,” Andrew Little says.
