Workers at high-class hotel win pay rise

Workers at high-class hotel win pay rise

Striking workers at Auckland’s Carlton Hotel have won a 3 per cent pay rise. Some 60 staff staged a 24-hour strike at the luxury hotel this week in protest over a 1.8 per cent pay offer.

EPMU organiser Barry Rowan said that the workers were delighted with the settlement.

“Many of them didn’t get a pay rise at all last year, and were insulted by the 1.8 per cent offer,” he said.

The new collective agreement also included improved conditions, Mr Rowan said.
