New Zealand Army Engineers To Complete Aid Tasks In Solomon Islands

Army Engineers from 2nd Land Force Group in Linton Camp, head for the Solomon Islands today (Wednesday, May 28) to complete a number of building projects around Honiara and Western Province.

A second group will deploy on Saturday, June 1. In addition, two members of the French Armed Forces in New Caledonia (FANC) – a doctor and a dentist - will also be deploying to the Solomon Islands with the Engineers.

“Our help to the community also extends to our Pacific neighbours,” said Army spokesman Captain Murray Brown. The NZ Army is committed to providing assistance to our Pacific neighbours alongside other NZ Government organisations.

The engineers will be in the Solomon Islands until 22 June 2003. The engineers were flown to the Solomon Islands by an Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft this afternoon.
