Destiny Targets Fatherlessness in Campaign

DESTINY NEW ZEALAND PARTY

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

24 April 2005

Destiny Targets Fatherlessness in Campaign Message

Destiny New Zealand Leader Richard Lewis told a packed house at a combined church service in Te Awamutu last night that 'fatherlessness' was a major issue being targeted by Destiny NZ policies.

"Runaway fathers are the primary reason why so many youngsters are going off the rails and featuring in our worst social trends such as crime, alcohol and drug abuse, teenage pregnancies and abortions. The root issues leading to these behaviours will only be resolved when we restore strength and status to marriage centred families and hold fathers accountable for their own children", Lewis said.

Destiny New Zealand has a dedicated Family Policy that upholds a definition of 'normative family' as that centred on a lifelong marriage between a 'man' and a 'woman' and their children to at least the fourth generation. Policies also include economic measures that give benefits to marriage centred families with the aim of restoring a 'lifelong' marriage culture.

"One thing is for certain, our present government is the most family-hostile, anti-Christian administration we have ever seen. It's time to vote according to our convictions and for those people who won't compromise our Christian founding values", Lewis added.

Mr Lewis will speak at a public meeting at Chapel Downs Primary School in Manukau East on Tuesday at 7.30pm. Visit www.destinynz.org.nz under 'events' for details.
