Superannuitant's will benefit from Progressive Party's Over 65s policy

Progressive Party West Coast – Tasman candidate Lew Holland today warned West Coast – Tasman superannuitants against accepting at face value the tax cuts on offer by the National Party.

“The National Party’s across the board tax cuts really mean substantial welfare for Dr Brash, the millionaire John Keyes and the wealthiest New Zealanders. Any tax cut for the lowest paid, and superannuitants like myself and thousands of others, will soon be gobbled up by the increased costs of services such as health care and interest rate rises. In order to deliver these cuts a National government will have to resort to increased overseas borrowing, and a huge step backwards to the years Rogernomics.” Mr. Holland said. “Call it what you will – the borrow and hope disaster which brought New Zealand to its knees in the 1980s and 1990s will be repeated.”

“The gap between the haves and the have-nots will widen. Interest rates will rise. My ten bucks tax reduction will have disappeared within 3 months of the return of a National led government. Regardless of what Dr Brash tells you, there will be cuts in health and education spending.”

“After 6 years of continuous growth and steady recovery the New Zealand economy is poised to move forward to the next stage. We have already seen the lowest unemployment in a generation, matched by the lowest crime rate in 20 years.” Mr Holland said. “We will see a steady increase in wages and a steady rise in living standards to the point where we will equal and surpass our Australian cousins. Our children will no longer have to move away from this beautiful country of ours in order to improve their lot. New Zealanders living overseas will return.”

“Progressive Party policies initiated in Government such as economic and regional development and partnerships between central government, local government and business has seen the re-introduction of apprenticeships, regional development plans in most regions, and a skills shortage in the West Coast rather than the jobs shortage of the 80s and 90s.”
