Strike action again today at Skycity

SFWU Nga Ringa Tota members employed at SkyCity Auckland have taken strike action again today.

These workers are asking the question "Who's winning" in the casino industry?
SkyCity says you, the customers, are winning...

SkyCity Auckland made a $56million profit in the first 6 months of this year. Their huge income is reflected in profit growth of over 200% since 1996.

Today, safety concerns and questions about host responsibility are surfacing, and it's becoming hard to see how the Auckland community is winning at SkyCity.

Also, SkyCity tells staff to "shine" like they have won

With average pay rates around $12/hr, most SkyCity workers are among the lower paid in our community. Unsociable shifts, distraught customers, understaffing and a flea infestation make it a tough job - could you "shine" after 8-10 hours on your feet in the VIP room or rushing to clean 10 toilets in 10 minutes?
But really, it's SkyCity & Evan Davies who win...

* CEO Evan Davies' new salary package nets him $4.6 million a year in cash & shares.

* Evan and his partner (SkyCity GM Heather Shotter) have an estimated combined income of over $6million.

* SkyCity shareholders handed Evan a 25% pay rise ($50,000) plus a $1.5 million bonus after Evan argued that he should have pay parity with Australian CEOs.
It only takes Evan 7 days to earn what a SkyCity worker earns in 1 year!
That's why SFWU Nga Ringa Tota members are taking the gamble today!
