Understanding Homelessness

The knowledge and experience of Downtown Community Ministry staff is being used in the making of a DVD movie on homelessness.

The thirty minute movie hopes to broaden the views many people have of homelessness and shed light on the unseen groups experiencing it.

DCM Director Stephanie McIntyre says, “The documentary will provide the time and space for people to tell their stories and will give the careful analysis that the TV news media does not”.

Case studies cover the policy level in New Zealand’s main centres, the diversity of people experiencing homelessness and what agencies at the local level are doing about it.

“We support the partnerships ThreeDollarPictures has formed with the Wellington Homelessness Prevention Strategy Group and the Wellington City Council in the development of this film.

“Likewise our work, addressing homelessness, is based largely on partnerships of dedicated people around Wellington,” says Stephanie.
