Wellington Action Against Rape is continuing to call for the Police to sack Clint Rickards

"It's time for the Police to take action," said spokesperson Anna Potts, "everyone in New Zealand knows that Rickards need to go, when will the Police do what needs to be done".

Client Rickards, who has been suspended on full pay for over three years and eight months, has admitted to having manipulative and inappropriate sex with vulnerable teenagers, publicly attacked a police investigation and staff, and openly supported convicted rapists and questioned their convictions. "Worse still," says Potts, "he can see nothing wrong with his behaviour - this man believes he exemplifies all that is good and professional about the New Zealand Police."

The group says that after so long the public has run out of faith in the Police's handling of the matter. "The grounds to fire Rickards are absolutely clear; a good clean disciplinary process would have come to the conclusion all of us know is right, and it wouldn't have taken months, let alone years," said Potts. "In frustration we're now calling on the Minister to act; she needs to ask the tough questions: why are the Police allowing this farce to continue? When will Rickards finally be fired?"

The group has commenced a postcard campaign, distributing free postcards that allow the public to express their disgust in the Police?s handling of Rickard?s on-going employment. "It was amazing," said Potts, "everyone was so keen to get involved! It's clear everyone's just plain sick of Rickards. People can't believe what he's got away with - as several people said to us 'If I did something half as bad I?d be out in a flash!' "

The group will be continuing their campaign this weekend, giving out postcards in Cuba Mall on Saturday from 2-3pm.
