EARTH WALK – PHOTO OPPORTUNITY

March Proclaiming Vegetarianism as a Solution to Climate Change

Earth Walk, a march through Wellington City Centre and ending at the Beehive to meet the Government’s representative, MP Marian Hobbs, will take place on Saturday 31 May at 12.30pm. Expecting more than 200 people from different cities, even as far as Christchurch and Auckland, Earth Walk’s participants will be making an earnest public appeal on Parliament grounds. They hope to touch the hearts of New Zealanders to make the urgently needed change to vegetarianism to help combat climate change. A letter addressed to the Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, supported by many organisations, will also be submitted to the MP Marian Hobbs.

Carrying a basket of organic fruit and vegetables, meat substitutes and a young native tree, accompanied by children wearing vegetable and animal costumes and carrying placards, “Veggie is Cool”, “Be Cool, Be Vegetarian”, Sheree Beer will offer the gifts to the MP as symbolic gestures towards a more sustainable way of living. Animal free products, planting more trees and using sustainable energy according to the Group, are some of the most effective ways we can all make a significant impact on climate change.

Participants will join in to sing a composed song “Give Veg a Chance” at the Beehive, to the tune of John Lennon’s “Give Peace a Chance”.

Earth Walk’s aim is to inspire people to take urgent action on an individual level. “Please take the time to find out more and make a difference. Time is very short.”

Those interested in the message can look at www.veg4earth.org for more information.

Notes to the Editor: Earth Walk is supported by many organisations, including, Save Animals From Exploitation (SAFE), the NZ Vegetarian Society, Hare Krishna, Young Greens, Seventh-day Adventist Church, Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association, Gaura Yoga and many other groups and individuals.
