Doubts About Bain Verdict Grow

The number of New Zealanders who believe David Bain is not guilty has fallen sharply in the two weeks following the trial.

Immediately after the trial, 62% thought he was not guilty, 23% that he was guilty with 15% unsure.

Now 47% believe he is not guilty, 29% guilty and 24% are unsure.

That 15% drop in the number of New Zealanders who believe that David Bain is not guilty is almost certainly attributable to media stories on inappropriate juror behavior and testimony that did not reach the Christchurch jury.

Amongst the 47% who believe David Bain is not guilty there is overwhelming support for him receiving compensation of around $1.5 million.

79% of this group think he should have compensation and 16% that he should not.
