Leadership on Light Rail
“Now Wellington
has leadership on light rail,” said Brian Jameson of
Trans-Action, responding to Mayoral candidate Celia
Wade-Brown’s plans to roll out a light rail transport
network in Wellington by 2020.
Trans-Action is a trust advocating for better public transport in Wellington.
"We welcome the commitment by Celia Wade-Brown to the introduction of light rail in Wellington."
“In the forthcoming local body election, Wellingtonians will now have the opportunity to support a mayoral candidate who is clearly supporting the answer to Wellington’s long term transport needs.”
“Light rail, the modern tram, is the ideal complement to Wellington’s suburban rail and bus network and will reduce the pressure to expand road capacity.”
“Light rail will provide a practical and affordable means to significantly improve Wellington’s transport infrastructure.”
In announcing her commitment to light rail Celia Wade-Brown acknowledged that many cities in the United States and Europe are now introducing or improving light rail systems. “Trans-Action considers that Wellington should be part of this renaissance. The case for light rail in Wellington is compelling.” said Mr Jameson.
