Dr. Richard A. Slaughter to address Futures Thinking Forum

Dr. Richard A. Slaughter to address climate change, peak oil at Futures Thinking Aotearoa’s March Forum

15 March 2011

Dr. Richard A. Slaughter, Director of Foresight International, will be speaking at the March Forum of Futures Thinking Aotearoa. His presentation, ‘Navigating the Anthropocene’, argues that humanity has entered a new era in which booming populations, climate change, peak oil and economic crises pose major threats to civilisation. Rather than accepting an ‘overshoot and collapse’ scenario, however, Dr. Slaughter is exploring options that will help us adapt to the challenging times ahead.

The forum will take place in two locations throughout New Zealand:

Hamilton: Tuesday, 22 March 1:00-2:30 PM
University of Waikato, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Room 17
Wellington: Tuesday, 29 March 12:15-1:30 PM
Reception/Ante, Turnbull House, Bowen Street

Based in Australia, Dr. Slaughter is a writer, practitioner and innovator in Futures Studies and Applied Foresight. He was Foundation Professor of Foresight at the Australian Foresight Institute in Melbourne from 1999-2004 and President of the World Futures Studies Federation from 2001-2005. He is the author or editor of 20 books and numerous papers on a variety of futures topics. His most recent book, The Biggest Wake Up Call in History, serves as the background for his presentation.

The forum will provide a unique, thought-provoking discussion on how we can confront modern challenges and find our way forward. For more information, contact Yvonne Curtis at 04 383 5080 or email info@futurestrust.org.nz.
