UMR - “Mood of the Nation”

UMR - “Mood of the Nation”

Every UMR omnibus has included a standard mood question – asking New Zealanders whether they feel things in New Zealand are generally heading in the right direction or if they are off on the wrong track.

Although 2011’s mood was above the historical average, it was substantially down on the preceding two years, and would have been down further if it were not for an improvement around the time of the Rugby World Cup.

The proportion of New Zealanders who believed that things were heading in the right direction fluctuated between 55% and 64%.

The number believing New Zealand was on the right track rose 8% in the first poll after the start of the Rugby World Cup, held that peak throughout the RWC period, before dropping back down to where it started after the RWC finished.
