Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc. says YES to the Smokefree Environments Act

Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc. welcomes the Smokefree Environments Act; prohibiting the display or advertising of tobacco products as a ‘giant step foreward’ in contributing towards ‘Kahungunu Living Longer – Wellbeing Strategy’ and supporting the ‘Ngāti Kahungunu Tobacco Free Strategy’.

Ngāti Kahungunu recognises that tobacco:
Cuts down our whānau too early in life.
Destroys our whānau wellbeing
Is invasive of our Kahungunu culture and tikanga.
And we want tobacco to be drop kicked out of our lives forever.

We again welcome and recognise that this is a great ‘giant step foreward’ to supporting the Ngāti Kahungunu Tobacco Free Strategy and reaching a Smokefree Aotearoa 2025.
Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc. encourages New Zealand to support the proposal to introduce plain packaging of tobacco products in New Zealand recognising that as a great next step in contributing towards the ‘Ngāti Kahungunu Tobacco Free Strategy’ & Smokefree Aotearoa 2025.
