SA Forum Thursday - The Socialist Tradition in the Jewish Community

Following the desecration of a Jewish cemetary in Auckland by neo-nazis last week, this is a timely topic for socialists to consider in relation to our fight against racial hatred and other forms of discrimination. This forum will also discuss the relationship between Socialism and Jewish opposition to Israel's occupation of Palestine.

The Jewish people have an amazing history in connection with the foundations of European Socialism. There is a lot of historical information available on this subject, so we will focus more on the "why" than the "what" - the reasons that Jewish people were historically attracted to Socialism. Also, why Jewish people seem to have drifted away from activism in recent years.

The history of the Jewish people has a great deal to teach us as Socialists and as Revolutionaries.
