Today the 4G spectrum, tomorrow the sun

Claims for a share in the 4G radio spectrum show that tribalist demands will never end, Treatygate spokesman John Ansell said today.

“If Maori can keep a straight face in claiming radio waves, it’s only a matter of time before they’re claiming a share of the sun on the basis that Maui invented daylight saving”, said Ansell from Waitangi, where he will today draw attention to “40 years of state-sponsored Treaty fraud”.

“Then there’s the song ‘Under the Maori Moon’ - clear evidence that iwi should have a monopoly on tidal power.”

“The endless asset grab is possible because iwi opportunists have conned our gullible appeaser government that the word ‘taonga’ means anything they take a shine to,” Mr Ansell said.

“But when I looked up ‘taonga’ up in the dictionary current at the time of the Treaty, the definition was ‘property procured by the spear’.

“Even the shamefully one-eyed Waitangi Tribunal, which declared the 4G spectrum a taonga in 1999, ought to concede that it is very hard to spear a radio wave.”
News reports yesterday revealed that claims for the 700Mhz spectrum on the grounds that it was a ‘taonga’ could delay the auction of the requency that was set down for April.

Mr Ansell is an advertising specialist best known for the National Party’s 2005 Iwi/Kiwi billboard, who left the employ of then Opposition Leader John Key because he did not believe Mr Key cared enough about the country.
